The 2023 conference of the Organismes francophones de politique et d’aménagement linguistiques (OPALE) took place from 17 to 19 October in Quebec City under the theme of "Le français au travail et dans le commerce : enjeux et rôle de l’État". Experts from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation took part in this conference.
This event, organised by the Office québécois de la langue française and the Ministère québécois de la Langue française, presented a series of research findings on the French language. It was also an opportunity for researchers, experts, and decision-makers to discuss the challenges they had identified. This symposium brings together guest speakers from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, France, Quebec, Switzerland and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). This year's conferences and debates will focus on the language of work and commerce, the factors that influence the choice of language used in these areas, and the role of the state in the francization of the workplace.
From Wallonia-Brussels, speakers Altay Manço, Antoon Cox and Marie Steffens were present as well as members of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, and a delegation from OPALE Aurore Dumont, Dan Van Raemdonck and Esther Baiwir.
This year, the conferences and discussions focus on the language of work and commerce, and the factors that influence the choice of language used in these areas as well as the State's responsibility in the Frenchization of workplaces.
